Foreign patients are returning to Singapore for medical care in private hospitals after COVID-19 travel restrictions were lifted. Prior to the pandemic, around 40,000 foreigners came to Singapore each month for medical care, but the numbers have since come down. Nonetheless, foreign patients still account for a significant portion of the revenue of private hospitals, with the majority coming from Indonesia, followed closely by China and Indochina. In September 2021, Singapore started to open its borders in a phased approach, with vaccinated travel lanes and designated flights for individuals coming from low-risk countries, and lifted all restrictions in February 2023.
